When thinking about the implications of a teaching toy for kids, I thought about not what kids could be taught better but what are kids not being taught, especially in school.
Six and seven-year-olds are developing and adapting to the way people around them
treat people that are different. Whether that has to do with race, socio-economic status,
or neurodiversity, s ix and seven-year-olds are aware. I will not claim this game properly educates kids on Black history or social classes in America. Bag of Bugs reteaches seven-year-olds the hard and fast rules taught by binary thinking. By recategorizing bugs, this game will break those rules to open the door for more open-minded thinking.
